PROJECT

Carbon Emissions Reduction

CLIENT

Goldfields

LOCATION

Damang, Ghana

OVERVIEW

In its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, Goldfields engaged MEC to conduct an options study and assessment for transitioning their Tarkwa and Damang sites. The study aimed to compare various asset mixes, including mobile crushing and conveying systems, Trolley Line installations, and retrofitting diesel trucks with Liquid Natural Gas (LNG). Given the unique challenges faced by the site, particularly concerning jurisdiction over power sources, the project’s success was imperative. MEC’s reputation for delivering value to projects was validated through the discovery of additional savings by refining the mine sequence to optimize the utilization of the new asset mix for mine operations at the site.

MEC’s expertise and meticulous approach not only ensured a thorough evaluation of transition options but also identified opportunities for further efficiencies. By refining the mine sequence, MEC unearthed additional savings, demonstrating the potential for significant cost reductions while achieving environmental objectives. This collaborative effort between Goldfields and MEC underscores the importance of innovative solutions in tackling environmental challenges within the mining industry, paving the way for sustainable practices that prioritize both environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
